Paco Ulman

Paco Ulman (b. 1980) is an architect and photo artist who lives and works in Tallinn. Architecture is his livelihood and his photography seems at first glance like positive commentary from an inside circle. The gaze of an artist who is an active participant in shaping the built environment around has a way of alighting on intriguing problems or gaps in a seemingly continuous urban fabric. Ullman’s works might inspire us, other city residents, to notice the usual in the unusual and vice versa.

At Estonian Photographic Art Fair, Ulman displays the photo series (collaboration with Kaja Pae) called “Untitled” (2013). The photographs capture the vacant spaces that are part and parcel of the Tallinn urban space. Behind the rays we can see an attempt to somehow symbolically embolden and sharpen these otherwise diffuse areas, to pin them together with the rest of the city.
